For the first time, women in Saudi Arabia have participated in the camel beauty queen competition. During the beauty contest, Saudi women parade the "ships of the desert" i.e. camels. Lamiya al-Rashidi, 27, was among the women who competed on Saturday in the Ruma Desert, northeast of Riyadh. He said, "I hope we have a position now. Inshallah." 40 contestants took part in the event, out of which the top 5 winners were awarded a prize of around $260,000. According to the news agency AFP, earlier only men took part in the King Abdelaziz festival with their camels. This is the first time that this event has been organized for women. Lamiya al-Rashidi's family owns 40 camels. She says, “I have been interested in camels since I was young.
